The IT Officer on a cruise ship is responsible for managing and maintaining the ship’s technology systems, including computer networks, software, and hardware, support devices connected by satellite such as Cisco phones. They ensure that all technology networks are functioning properly and that all staff members have the necessary support and training to use it effectively. IT officers will bring prior experirence as helpdesk for IT to large corporations, and some cruise lines will require they already have obtained a CISCO certification and/or Microsoft certification prior to interview. They must be very familiar with regular anti-virus scanning, blockage of dangerous websites, networking connection, printers installation, software downloads as per company policies, troubleshooting hardware and software, regular back-ups and other IT daily routines to ensure the data protection and network safety for the ship.
